JOB SUMMARY:
The Database Engineer is responsible for database creation, configuration, tuning, security, backup procedures and restores if necessary, capacity planning and monitoring. They support a variety of environments (development, test, training and production), and manage changes across environments as specified by change control procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Specialized Training/Licensure:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science (And) Seven (7) Years Work Experience in related database experience
(Or)
High School Diploma or GED (And) Eleven (11) Years Work Experience in related field
Management Experience : 2 Years supervising other database staff
Technical Skills:
Database Administration & Management
- Installation, configuration, and upgrading of SQL Server instances
- Database design, modeling, and architecture
- Performance tuning and query optimization
- Backup, restore, and disaster recovery planning (Point-in-Time Recovery, Log Shipping, Mirroring, Always On Availability Groups)
- High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) strategies
Performance Tuning & Optimization
- Indexing strategies, query execution plans, and partitioning
- SQL Profiler, Extended Events, and Dynamic Management Views (DMVs)
- Optimizing stored procedures, triggers, and functions
Security
- Role-based access control (RBAC), encryption, and auditing
- Vulnerability assessments and patch management
Patching and Upgrading
- SQL Server instance patching for both VM and AOAG environment
- OS patching for AOAG for both VM and AOAG environment

Scripting & Automation
- Writing and optimizing T-SQL queries
- PowerShell scripting for automation
- SQL Server Agent Jobs for maintenance and monitoring
- Maintain SSIS packages
Cloud & Hybrid Environments
- Experience with Azure SQL Database, AWS RDS for SQL Server
- Cloud migration strategies (Lift-and-Shift, Re-platforming)
- Hybrid architectures integrating on-prem and cloud databases
Monitoring & Troubleshooting
- SQL Server logs, Extended Events, Profiler, and Solarwinds DPA plus.
- Identifying blocking, deadlocks, long running SQLs, and resource contention issues
- Implementing monitoring tools like SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), SolarWinds.
Soft Skills:
- Working with developers on database best practices
- Coordinating with system admins and network teams for infrastructure needs and troubleshooting
