Job Summary

Part of a larger team delivering high quality Computer, Network, Storage and End-User Infrastructure technology solutions, on-going support to the business. Independently completes infrastructure project assignments. We are seeking a Network Engineer to join our team, responsible for delivering high-quality technology solutions in Computer, Network, Storage, and End-User Infrastructure. This role involves independently managing infrastructure projects, planning and designing technology systems, providing technical support and troubleshooting, and producing technical documentation. Strong technical expertise and effective communication skills are essential for success. Responsible for collaborating with other Job Families such as Project Managers, Architects, Solution Engineers, Technicians, Business Analysts to deliver consistent, reliable technology solutions that leverage AEP's technology standards, architectures and best practices.

Job Description

Essential Job Functions:

Working independently, responsibilities include the following related to

  • Provide engineering assistance on Data Center and Backbone Network Engineering projects, focusing on design, installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and performance analysis of core networks and systems.

  • Collaborate with planners, project managers, engineers, inspectors, field operations supervisors, field technicians, external providers, and interconnected transmission and generation customers.

  • Perform and lead complex infrastructure project assignments related to Computer, Network, Storage, Cloud, and End-User infrastructure, including planning, research, evaluation, design, and performance analysis, , spreadsheets, and email, along with strong interpersonal and writing skills.

  • Design, implement, and maintain network security policies related to firewalls while configuring and troubleshooting enterprise routers for optimal connectivity.

  • Oversee core switching infrastructure, ensuring high availability and performance optimization for data traffic management.

  • Provide advanced technical support and analysis, along with operation, administration, and troubleshooting activities.

  • Adhere to and advocate for change management policies, incident management, and trouble response scenarios; prepare cost estimates, justifications, application requirements, alternative solutions, and technical recommendations.

  • Lead, facilitate, and coordinate work activities within the team or department; prepare technical documentation, including procedures, manuals, reports, and standards.

  • Review and adhere to budgeting and approval processes while participating in annual and project planning.

  • Provide training and mentoring, as well as work direction, to team members.

Minimum Requirements:

Infrastructure Engineer Senior (SG7):

Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related technical field is required.

Experience: 5 years of relevant work experience is required. An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered.

Infrastructure Engineer Principal (SG8):

Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related technical field is required.

Experience: 7 years of relevant work experience is required. An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered.

Preferred Requirements:

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Possess Experience in Network Vulnerability Management and Mitigations

  • Possess broad level knowledge of communications technologies and inter-networking principles.

  • Demonstrate competency in analytical techniques necessary to handle assignments of varying complexity. (e.g., by dividing the problem into component steps, and performing the analysis necessary to complete each step.)

  • Exhibit understanding for pertinent telecom equipment, materials, systems, and business processes.

  • Exhibit ability to understand interrelationships between systems and component equipment.

  • Demonstrate ability to analyze and recommend enhancements to business processes

  • Demonstrate an attitude and desire to listen to and satisfy both internal and external customers who use and depend upon their organizational unit

  • Able to relate to people in an open, friendly, and sincere manner

  • Possess the following core competencies: continuous improvement, team player, assume positive intent, safety first focus, continuous learning, professionalism.

Certifications: Cisco Certified Inter-Network Professional (CCNP)

Infrastructure Engineer Senior (SG7): $85,081 - $106,354

Infrastructure Engineer Principal (SG8): $96,110 - $124,941

Compensation Range:

$85,081.00-106,352.50 USD

Candidates will be considered based on their qualifications and the candidates ability to work from an approved work location. Although the location is flexible, AEP does not have a presence in all states and localities. The following locations are NOT currently approved for this position: AK, CA, CO, CT, DE, HI, IA, ID, KS, MA, ME, MS, MT, ND, NH, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OR, RI, SD, UT, VT, WY, US Territories or international work locations. AEP will consider qualified candidates who are willing to relocate to an approved work location, at the candidates expense, provided the relocation can be completed within a timeframe that meets AEPs staffing needs.
